The Future of the Business
Even though Kilian is no longer with us, the business he built continues
to grow because of the strong team he left behind. I am now the owner and leads
as CEO, Johann keeps the buses running smoothly, Gustav brings fresh skills
from his years at PPC, and Nic remains the steady hand guiding operations and
contracts.
Together, we carry forward Kilian’s vision of safe and reliable
transport for schoolchildren and the community. With the succession plan in
place and each family member and colleague playing their part, the business is
set to keep moving forward for many years to come—still driven by the same
passion and care that started it all back in 1999.
The Story of our Business
My late husband Kilian started the business in 1999 when he bought the
West Coast branch of Elwierda Tours in Cape Town together with 2 other
partners. In 2009 the other partners resign leaving him as sole owner of the closed
corporation.
With the support of myself, his wife, and his lifelong colleague Nic, we
founded a small but growing company united by a shared passion for safe
transport for schoolchildren and the wider community. What started small has
grown into a business that now moves 1,000 passengers every day.
Kilian was the CEO and took care of the mechanical side and inventory.
He wanted to leave something lasting for his children and grandchildren, so he
put a succession plan in place to make sure the business would carry on.
When he was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer in early 2024, that plan came
into action. I stepped in as CEO, Johann took over the mechanical operations,
and Gustav joined the team to manage inventory and prepare for future
responsibilities.
Gerda Kirchner
Married to Kilian for 46 years and has been part of the business since day one. I looked after the finances, handles tender submissions, and helps with HR matters, supported by Labour Services.
Johann Kirchner
Johann, my son, has been with the business since 2017. After his father’s illness, he became manager of the mechanical operations department. He keeps the buses in shape and even drives routes when staff are off sick.
Gustav West
Gustav, my son‑in‑law, worked at PPC in Piketberg for 27 years before joining the family business. He stepped in after his father-in-law’s diagnosis, taking over inventory management and bringing strong skills in operations and training. He’s also being prepared to take on Nic’s duties in the future.
Nic Du Toit
Nic has been part of the business since it was founded in 1999. He stood alongside Kilian and Gerda to get the corporation off the ground and has been a steady, reliable presence ever since. Nic manages the operations and takes care of the admin for contracts and bus routes, making sure everything runs smoothly day to day.
